LP® TechShield® is made of a thin, durable sheet of aluminum overlay laminated to LP Oriented Strand Board (OSB), an innovative, affordable and environmentally smart wood-based structural panel made from wood chips and resins.
The OSB used in LP TechShield Radiant Barrier Sheathing is manufactured from a wide range of fast-growing and relatively small trees, and it’s made by blending rectangular wood strands with thermal-set, waterproof adhesives. The treated strands are arranged in cross-directional layers that are then pressed together under extreme heat and pressure. The result is a rigid, dense engineered panel that is stiff, strong and durable.
A patented incising process used to make LP TechShield creates moisture vapor channels through the aluminum overlay and into the OSB to release trapped moisture without affecting radiant barrier performance. Releasing trapped moisture can help prevent decreased structural strength and mold growth inside the house. The perforations in the aluminum layer aren’t blocked during lamination, so roof decking and related components are protected from deterioration.
