LP Environmental Management System
What Is an Environmental Management System (EMS)? LP’s environmental management system turns our environmental commitment into action. Unlike regulations, which impose requirements from the outside, an environmental management system (EMS) operates
within a business or industry. Through a system of internal policies, plans and procedures, the EMS integrates environmental requirements and opportunities into everyday, routine practices, practices that provide significant benefits for the organization and for the environment.
Our Environmental Management System Empowers Our PeopleLP has built an exceptional environmental management system unique in our industry. It taps into the know-how and ideas of LP's employees, whose actions to protect the environment are a part of their everyday responsibilities.
LP people take personal responsibility for their actions. They are well informed about the positive impacts that their contributions have on the company and on their communities. They are eager and proud to share ideas for further improvements -- not just meeting environmental compliance requirements, but surpassing them. Employees work in teams to develop and continuously improve procedures that meet or exceed environmental standards. Each LP facility fits its unique situation into the EMS with customized elements. As a result, we have experienced an 80 percent reduction in environmental citations since 1996. Implementing our EMS has also improved operational performance at our mills.
