| General
Information |
| Q:
What is it made of?
A: CorrectDeck
is crafted from recovered Maine
hardwood fiber and rugged, UV-stabilized
polypropylene. CorrectDeck combines
a unique polypropylene-based
formula with a highly advanced
manufacturing process to yield
a superior material. CorrectDeck
was the first composite decking
manufacturer to use polypropylene
instead of polyethylene. Polypropylene
(think of Tupperware® or
those red gas cans) makes it
stronger, stiffer, and lighter
than other composites, so it
can span longer distances and
withstand higher temperatures
with less expansion and contraction. |
| Q:
Polypropylene - virgin or recycled
plastic?
A: CorrectDeck
uses a mix of virgin and recycled
plastic. Our primary source
of recycled polypropylene is
postal totes - those white plastic
boxes that the mail comes in
at the office. Polypropylene,
being durable, is not used in
many disposable items. Common
applications are rope, car batteries,
car bumpers, and red gas cans.
Postal totes are our only source
of clean, uncolored polypro
(as you can imagine, we can't
use off-color plastic in our
premium decking). |
Q:
How much does it cost?
A: CorrectDeck
will add 15-20% to the cost
of the typical deck project,
but will add as much as 50%
overall value, and will contribute
to greater resale. Please use
the zip code locator to find
your nearest dealer to contact
for pricing. |
| Q:
What are some of the other uses
for CorrectDeck?
A: Decking,
railings, porches, fencing,
docks, playgrounds, benches,
picnic tables, etc.. |
| Q:
Will the color on every board
be the same as material made
at a different time?
A: No, color
variation is intrinsic to the
recovered wood fiber we make
it from. Most color variations
will weather out in the first
few weeks. |
| Q:
Why do my Grey boards have a
brown cast?
A: This is
an artifact of the brownish
color of the recovered wood
fiber used to make the product.
This exposed wood fiber weathers
to a gray color quickly, and
the brown or reddish cast fades
away. |
| Q:
Does CorrectDeck provide good
traction?
A: Yes. It
isn't slippery, which makes
it safe for children and its
splinter free. It's actually
less slippery than wood and
is ADA compliant for ramps,
etc. The deep wood grain and
fine wood particles mix make
a board that isn't slippery.
|
| Q:
Will CorrectDeck rot, splinter,
or decay like wood?
A: No. This
is particularly important in
pool applications where wood
splinters can be a safety hazard. |
| Q:
Is CorrectDeck maintenance-free?
A: No, it will
require periodic cleaning just
like wood. However, it doesn’t
need to be stained like wood. |
| Q:
Does CorrectDeck get hot like
wood?
A: No - Not
as hot as painted wood. The
deep wood grain and thin profile,
in combination with IR-reflective
pigments help keep it cool underfoot. |
| Q:
What are the main differences
between CorrectDeck and other
composite decking products?
A: CorrectDeck
is made from Polypropylene (PP)
and hardwood fiber so it much
stronger and more durable than
other polyethylene (PE) based
composites. |
| Q:
What sizes and lengths are available?
A: 12, 16,
and 20 foot lengths decking
and an industry-leading 8 foot
spans for railing. Decking is
available in 6” &
4” widths. |
| Q:
Hollow vs. solid composite decking?
A: It's really
a matter of preference, but
a solid product composite product
is easier to work with because
it frames just like wood and
feels stronger and more substantial
on the deck. |
| Q:
Will the wood fiber on the surface
deteriorate?
A: Standard
CorrectDeck has exposed wood
fiber that will lighten (white
or grey) depending on exposure.
This is the reason for the color
change as the product weathers.
CorrectDeck CX has a co-extruded
layer that encases the wood
fibers making it resistant to
color fading and staining. |
| Q:
Is CorrectDeck subject to surface
scratching, what can be done
to correct this?
A: CorrectDeck
is extremely hard. Surface scratching
e.g. from moving furniture,
snow blowers, etc is not a problem
like it can be with softer brands
of decking. |
| Q:
What should I do with my CorrectDeck
scraps?
A: Build
planters, benches, use them
in the garden, etc. |
| Q:
Can I use CorrectDeck for watertight
roofing?
A: It is waterproof
and can be sealed but pooling
water on the deck will make
it too hard to clean so we do
not recommend this. An easy
way to create a dry under deck
area is to install roofing on
the underside of the deck frame.
Be sure to incline it for drainage. |
| Q:
How should CorrectDeck lumber
be handled or stored?
A: Store on
wood supports placed approximately
every three feet and under a
lumber cover or tarp. Rainwater
that wouldn’t stain a
deck will stain lumber stacked
in a unit, so keep it dry. |
| Q:
How does CorrectDeck react to
below freezing temperatures?
A: CorrectDeck
is made in Maine to withstand
all types of weather. |
| Q:
How does CorrectDeck react in
hot weather?
A: CorrectDeck
is great for hot climates. It
will not sag between joists
and isn’t hot underfoot. |
| Q:
Will insects damage CorrectDeck
decking?
A: No, it
is too dense. |
| Q:
Does CorrectDeck weigh more
or less than typical lumber?
A: 2.2 lbs/ft,
more than most types of lumber. |
