Stains,
Mildew, & Cleaning |
| Q:
Will it grow mold or mildew?
A:
Mold or mildew may
grow on your deck, especially
if food particles, leaves or
dirt remain on the deck for
an extended period of time.
Sweep or pressure-wash your
deck regularly to avoid this
problem. Avoid getting Miracle-Gro
or other fertilizers from your
lawn on your deck. Clean leaves
out of the gutters and make
sure that water cannot pool
on your deck. A quick and easy
way to remove mildew spots is
to use a sodium hypo-chloride
based cleaner on the affected
area. CorrectDeck CX is resistant
to mold & mildew because
of its co-extruded, Microban®
anti-microbial protective coating.
AS with standard CorrectDeck,
periodic cleaning is still recommended. |
| Q:
How do I get stains out?
A:
Heavy grease, motor
oil, greasy boots, muddy paws,
etc. may stain standard CorrectDeck.
To clean, use a grease-eating
cleaner such as Lestoil, or
a steam cleaner. For CorrectDeck
CX, simply hose down and wipe
off. |
| Q:
Why do my Grey boards have a
brown cast?
A:
This is an artifact
of the brownish color of the
recovered wood fiber used to
make the product. This exposed
wood fiber weathers to a gray
color quickly, and the brown
or reddish cast fades away.
CorrectDeck CX has a co-extruded
layer that encases the wood
fibers making it resistant to
color fading and staining. |
| Q:
What about stains from cooking
oil, fat drippings, juices,
etc?
A:
Fat drippings, juices,
oils, etc. may stain our standard
CorrectDeck. CorrectDeck CX
is stain resistant because of
its co-extruded top coating.
We suggest you use a mat around
your grill to cut down on the
exposure to grease and the necessity
to clean more frequently. |
| Q:
Can I use sandpaper to remove
stains?
A:
No, CorrectDeck is
too hard. |
| Q:
Can I paint/stain/water seal
the product?
A: You will
never have to apply a water
sealer to CorrectDeck. Doing
so will not yield the positive
results you would get when applying
it to natural wood products
and it will eliminate the opportunity
for applying a stain in the
future since most water sealers
contain a wax-like component
that will prevent other coatings
from adhering properly.
Once standard CorrectDeck has
weathered for at least two seasons,
a good quality solid or semi
transparent oil or latex stain
can be applied. Do not attempt
this process on new material
as results will not be acceptable.
Because CorrectDeck has a limited
absorption ability, you should
never apply more than one coat
of product – the second
coat will remain on the surface
and blotches or tackiness will
remain for extended periods
of time. Always work the wet
edge of the stain to avoid lap
lines. It is best to work down
the full length of a few boards
rather than across the width
of many boards to avoid this
problem.
Never attempt to apply any type
of coating to the surface of
CorrectDeck CX products. Only
cut edges will respond properly
to matching stains and these
are available on our web site
or through your local CorrectDeck
dealer.

Will the chlorine or other chemicals
from our swimming pool damage
the material?
A:
No. It is great around
pools. |
| Q:
Will salt/ice melter damage
it?
A:
No. CorrectDeck has
good chemical resistance. |
| Q:
Can I power wash my deck?
A:
Yes, up to 1200 psi
and 130º F. |
| Q:
What can I do to remove ice
or snow?
A:
Use ice melter, shovels,
etc. as on normal wood. Do not
chip at the material. |
